Non-toxic makeup series: part 4
The non-toxic eye products in this post are broken down into categories: eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow and brow products. Eye products definitely have a learning curve, but I’ve provided recommendations that can accommodate different experience levels and really only one that requires a bit of practice (liquid liner). I hope you enjoy these products that are filled with rich botanical ingredients. Any of them can either be worn alone to decorate the eye area or in a full makeup look for a night out.
There are two videos this week since I had so many products to share, check them out on IGTV!
The natural makeup revolution is here
We know that the brands we used growing up are full of toxic ingredients that made our makeup stay all day, but can have lasting negative effects on our skin and body. Thankfully, there are brands pioneering forward to healthier options and cleaner cosmetics.
I am a holistic licensed Esthetician that believes you should never have to be scared of what you put on your skin. Ingredients lists can be misleading and so I’ve spent months finding the best non-toxic makeup products for you. In this post these eye products had to fall into these three categories:
- No toxic ingredients- ever. No hormone disruptors, no eye irritants, no organ toxicity (reproductive or otherwise), no fragrance and preferably ingredients derived from nature.
- Not harsh on your skin. Everyone’s skin is different, and I’ve listed ingredients that may be trouble for certain skin types.
- It has to work. I worked doing makeup artistry years back and understand the importance of makeup’s efficiency. I’ve provided various details on coverage, opaqueness, etc. depending on what it is you are looking for the product to do for your skin.
Many times articles similar to this one contain affiliate links where the publisher is being paid for their promotion of the brand. This article contains NO affiliate links because I wanted to be able to take a 100% objective view of these non-toxic eye products.
Also, just because I recommend a certain product from a brand does NOT mean that I recommend every product from that brand. There are very few brands that completely contain clean ingredients and if I didn’t post about a product I probably did not like the ingredients list.
Furthermore, Companies are constantly changing ingredients. I will try to keep this post relevant, but if you notice a change in formula or have a concern about an ingredient please email me ([email protected]) or fill out a contact form so I can update the post.

Natural eye pencil (jet)
Pacifica Beauty $11
TIPS: On days when I want a really stand out dark brow look, I apply this with a bent liner brush in small strokes.
PRO: This non-toxic eye pencil is buildable for a solid black color. It has a gentle/ smooth application with no tugging (that could increases lines around eye).
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Blend of natural oils (jojoba, canola, vegetable and macula) that all work together to keep this a creamy formula.
CON: It is so creamy that it will bleed if you get oily around your eye area or if your eyes get watery. To avoid smudging set with an eyeshadow.
Liquid liner (black)
Jane Iredale $24
TIPS: This is a true liquid liner and takes a lot of practice to master. Make sure you are ready for the challenge prior to purchasing. Always shake before opening.
PRO: Helpfully, the brush aids in a thin application that can be built up to a thicker line even Amy Winehouse would be proud to sport. I was also impressed that this non-toxic product stays on all day.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Raphanus Sativus (Radish) Root Extract- antioxidant rich with protective properties.
CON: If you’re not use to using liquid liner, this one doesn’t pull any punches.
Physicians formula $10.49
TIPS: For best application, brush through, let dry, use a lash curler (gently) and apply one more coat.
PRO: I do not have long lashes, but this product has a good comb-like brush to grab every lash without being gloopy.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract- good hair conditioner.
CON: This doesn’t lift lashes much, needs a lash curler. I would say it lasts well, but there was a little bleeding under my eye from lower lashes after about 6 hrs of wear.
RMS Beauty $28
TIPS: This is a dryer formula, be sure to tighten container lid to not encourage it to dry out.
PRO: This product successfully gives my lashes a lift and coats each lash.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil- softening and smoothing.
CON: To clarify, this is not a volumizing mascara. Therefore, while it will lift and define, it will not give you a thicker look. RMS beauty does have a volumizing version that I have not had the pleasure of testing yet.
Luminous creme bronzer stick (latte) *
Au Naturale $35
TIPS: Applied best with your fingers as a wash of color. Set with a powder for long wear.
PRO: I am mostly in love with these multi use products, because with the higher price point you can really get your money’s worth!
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam Seed Oil)- moisturizing and helps reduce water loss.
CON: Alternatively, this is a cream shadow, so it will wear off with wear.
Eye polish (lucky) *
RMS Beauty $28
TIPS: Apply with your finger to get smoothest application. These products contain coconut oil so they melt easily. Set with a finishing powder to avoid creasing.
PRO: I like cream eyeshadows because they allow for a wash of color/ pop of color look that comes off more natural.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter- deeply moisturizing and soothes skin.
CON: This is not an opaque look for those looking for a dark eyeshadow.
The anywhere creme multistick (sweetheart) *
Au Naturale $35
TIPS: Mixed it with their cream bronzer in latte for a rusty brown eye shadow look. To stop the eyeshadow from creasing, apply their finishing powder over top. Checkout cheek and lip blog posts to see how else you can use this non-toxic gem.
PRO: This product provides the perfect wash of color eye makeup look. It is incredibly easy to apply quickly.
CON: This non-toxic eye product will crease if not set with a finishing powder.
Fruit pigmented punk princess palette (boyfriend’s band, private show, unplugged)
100% pure $48
TIPS: These perform really well with any type of application and can be used to lightly set cream shadows as well for longer wear.
PRO: I appreciate that these are never flakey and stay where placed. The colors are true and pigmented without being too glitzy or sparkly.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Rich in ingredients with high antioxidant properties (i.e.- tea, a variety of berries and plum)- I could hardly pick just one great ingredient!
CON: Surprisingly, no cons with this product- excellent pigment and application. The palette may appear for a younger crowd by it’s packaging and name, but the colors are sophisticated and full of high quality ingredients.
Nourish & Define Brow pomeade (chestnut)
TIPS: For a more defined look apply with a bent liner brush, for a thicker look use the angle/comb brush that comes with this non-toxic brow product.
PRO: Feels softer and nourishing- not so waxy. Much better for those that have dryer skin under their brows. Comes with a brush to apply.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Hydrogenated Olive Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil Unsaponifiables- nourishing and softening.
CON: It can rub off easily, so you can set it with an eyeshadow if you run into that problem. The stickers on the bottom do not give you an accurate idea of the color inside the container. If purchasing in person, be sure to open the container and check the color first.
Long last brows (medium brown)
100% pure $25
TIPS: This non-toxic eyebrow product is closer to a pomeade with a waxier texture. Keep that lid tight to help it stay moister.
PRO: I suggest this product for oilier skin types because the formula is a little on the dryer side.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Oil- softening properties.
CON: Dryer skin types may experience flaking, if this occurs you can set it with a powder.
Eyebrow pencil (1610-brunette)
Burt’s bees $9.99
TIPS: Apply sharpened pencil in short strokes and then use the brush side comb product through brows.
PRO: This is a softer non-toxic brow product, the pencil needs to be use sharp or with a brush. The brunette color is definitely more amber than ash in tone, the color is richer than most brow products.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil- moisturizing for hair.
CON: Two shades are definitely not enough to work for every user, hopefully they will expand the options.
My two cents
I thoroughly believe that you should feel good in your skin even with no makeup and that’s why I designed my skincare line. I know that the journey to feeling lovely without makeup is a long one filled with up’s and down’s. Alternatively, I think makeup should be available to enhance your natural beauty without compromising your skin. I hope these non-toxic cheek products help bring you to a place where you can utilize makeup as an option and not a necessity. Please reach out with any questions you may have or comment below.
