Non-toxic makeup series: part 2
If you are applying something to your entire face, it better be rich with skin benefiting ingredients. Please be sure to pay special attention to the CONS and TIPS sections of these product recommendations. Foundations can absolutely affect your skin depending on your skin type, so user beware. I always recommend sampling foundations first, everyone has a different preference for feel and opaqueness. To help you find the foundation you’re looking for faster, I’ve listed these by medium: liquid, cream and powder. That being said, these non-toxic foundations are full of lovely ingredients that will help you glow.
The natural makeup revolution is here
We know that the brands we used growing up are full of toxic ingredients that made our makeup stay all day, but can have lasting negative effects on our skin and body. Thankfully, there are brands pioneering forward to healthier options and cleaner cosmetics.
I am a holistic licensed Esthetician that believes you should never have to be scared of what you put on your skin. Ingredients lists can be misleading and so I’ve spent months finding the best non-toxic makeup products for you. In this post these foundations had to fall into these three categories:
- No toxic ingredients- ever. No hormone disruptors, no organ toxicity (reproductive or otherwise), no fragrance and preferably ingredients derived from nature.
- Not harsh on your skin. Everyone’s skin is different, and I’ve listed ingredients that may be trouble for certain skin types.
- It has to work. I worked doing makeup artistry years back and understand the importance of makeup’s efficiency. I’ve provided various details on coverage, opaqueness, etc. depending on what it is you are looking for the product to do for your skin.
Many times articles similar to this one contain affiliate links where the publisher is being paid for their promotion of the brand. This article contains NO affiliate links because I wanted to be able to take a 100% objective view of these non-toxic foundations.
Also, just because I recommend a certain product from a brand does NOT mean that I recommend every product from that brand. There are very few brands that completely contain clean ingredients and if I didn’t post about a product I probably did not like the ingredients list.
Furthermore, Companies are constantly changing ingredients. I will try to keep this post relevant, but if you notice a change in formula or have a concern about an ingredient please email me ([email protected]) or fill out a contact form so I can update the post.

Atmosphere soft focus (S123) *
TIPS: Apply with a makeup sponge. This non-toxic foundation is pricey so definitely grab a sample first to see if it fits your skin tone and preferences.
PRO: This brand is setting a clear example of inclusivity. Every makeup brand should have this many shades from which to make a choice. This product has a clean scent. This liquid foundation has a satiny matte finish. This finish can be helpful for those of you with oilier skin that do not want to have to set their foundation with a powder.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Organic Camellia Oleifera (Camellia) Seed Oil- rich skin nourishing and hydrating properties.
CON: If you are on the dryer side, this matte finish may enhance texture and appear a little powdery. The sample I received was a little warm for my skin tone.
Ultra CC Cream Radiant foundation (warm/light)
Pacifica Beauty $18
TIPS: Apply with a makeup sponge or flat foundation brush for smooth application of this liquid non-toxic foundation.
PRO: This product contains 17 spf mineral sunscreen. This non-toxic foundation product provides light coverage (will even out some redness/discoloration) and still allows the skin to breath. This is lightweight and has a non-greasy feel. This is less of a foundation and more of a tint.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: cocos nucifera (coconut) water- this antibacterial ingredient has a unique makeup of vitamins & minerals to keep your skin clear and glowing.
CON: This brand needs to work on being more inclusive. There are only two available shades.
True skin serum foundation (SF3) *
TIPS: When I emailed their company asking about how to purchase samples to match my complexion they sent me four free samples. Apply with flat foundation brush/ makeup sponge and finish by using your clean hands to warm and press the non-toxic foundation into your skin.
PRO: This provides medium to full coverage. It has an oilier finish and feels moisturizing. Great for normal to dryer skin types looking for more full coverage.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Seed Oil- promotes elasticity and rich in antioxidants.
CON: May not be best for oilier skin types. A little bit goes a long way, so for this product I recommend starting small so you don’t end up wasting product.
Health glow cream foundation (Medium beige) *
Real Purity $30.99
TIPS: I purchased the wrong skin tone sample, online colors (and descriptions) are a little off so definitely sample before buying to match complexion. While this is called a “cream” foundation, I would say it is a non-toxic thicker liquid foundation.
PRO: This can be light to full coverage, very buildable. It has a heavier feel at first, but if you use a moist makeup sponge it starts to lighten up. Due to it’s thicker consistency this is perfect for oilier skin types.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Extract- soothes, moisturizes and reduces breakouts.
CON: May not work for dryer/ textured skin types without using a rich moisturizer first to avoid creasing.
Zero gravity C2P foundation (seville) *
Au Naturale $38
TIPS: When ordering online grab their creme starter kits which include 3 shades of their foundation stick, their creme multi stick (eye, lip, cheek), creme bronzer and a finishing powder. That purchase was definitely helpful to find the perfect shade and get you familiar with using their products.
PRO: I’ve been so impressed with the application, finish and quality of this non-toxic foundation. I can apply it with my fingers, a foundation brush or makeup sponge depening on how much coverage I want. Looks just like skin. This is best for normal skin types and helps to neutralize surface oiliness with a more matte finish (that never feels drying). In addition, this brand provides a good range of shade choices.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam Seed Oil)- reduces signs of aging and moisturizing.
CON: Quite a few things seem out of stock on their website. No cons with the product though.
Au naturale $26
TIPS: Use to set any creme product or all over for a matte finish that still catches the light on facial highlighting points.
PRO: This non-toxic powder product is light and never cakey or heavy. Talc free and contains only three ingredients. This is translucent and does not have a pigment. A perfect option to set liquid non-toxic foundations to create a more matte finish.
CON: This is a good option for oilier skin types or for those of you looking to set cream eye products. If you have an acne sensitivity to powders, steer clear of this one.
Honeybee gardens $10.99
TIPS: Apply with a synthetic powder brush for allover application or to reduce shine on t-zone. For acne prone skin avoid using powder foundation on face and opt for safe oil blotting sheets to reduce shine; and finish with toning mist to provide your skin with the moisture it needs and to neutralize acne-causing bacteria.
PRO: This non-toxic foundation provides a light to medium coverage and helps the skin to appear soft and glowy.
FAVORITE INGREDIENT: lycium Chinese (goji) berry- helps reduce the appearance of age spots and provides the skin with rich antioxidants.
CON: Not good for acne prone skin as powder (and powder brushes) can clog pores. If you have acne prone skin and are looking for a more matte finish I suggest the atmosphere soft focus liquid foundation or the zero gravity C2P cream foundation listed above.
My two cents
I thoroughly believe that you should feel good in your skin even with no makeup and that’s why I designed my skincare line. I know that the journey to feeling lovely without makeup is a long one filled with up’s and down’s. Alternatively, I think makeup should be available to enhance your natural beauty without compromising your skin. I hope these non-toxic foundations help bring you to a place where you can utilize makeup as an option and not a necessity. Please reach out with any questions you may have or comment below.
