As an Esthetician, I cringe a little bit when summer comes around. I may even live in denial for a while, but when the 100 degree temps show up (here in Phoenix) I realize I cannot avoid it any longer. Are you sweating and melting as much as I am? My skin absolutely reflects the shift in seasons and so I’m here with four summer skincare tips to keep you glowing through these next few months.

1. Dewy makeup
When you’re sweating throughout the day, it helps to switch to a more dewy makeup look. It’s time to make the shift from powder makeup products to liquids and creams. My favorite cream makeup products are by Au Naturale, but you can find your new favorite safe cream products to use this summer from my non-toxic series here: foundations, eye products, lip products, cheek products and concealers.
TIP: Use a moist beauty blender to apply those cream products for a dewy finish.
2. Seasonal shift
It’s normal for the summer season to change your skin dramatically. Skin can shift into either an oily/ greasy OR extra dry state. Here are my suggestions for both these issues.
OILY/ GREASY: Utilize an antibacterial (alcohol free) toning mist throughout the day to neutralize the bacteria on the skin when you don’t have time to do a full cleanse.
TIP: Stick your toner in the fridge to get it nice a cold adding a cool refreshing element to this skincare practice.
EXTRA DRY: The dryness usually is a result of how much we run our A/C units this time of year. Purchasing a humidifier and being extra diligent to massage the moisturizer in before bed will help calm uncomfortable dry summer skin.
3. Water, water, water
I know that you’ve heard this one before, but it is essential to your skin’s health. Dehydrated skin is irritated skin, so make sure you give your skin the support it needs to protect itself this summer. I like to subscribe to the idea that half your body weight in ounces will keep you nice and hydrated, but be sure to consult your doctor if you’re concerned about how much water you should drink.
TIP: Infused water (think herbs and fruit) for encouragement with consistency!
4. Diversify your sun protection
I love to talk about sunscreen and it is definitely an important part of your sun protection; however, look to other sources as well to help with that process. I’m talking about hats, sunglasses, umbrellas and breathable clothing. When your sunscreen inevitably sweats/ splashes off this summer, make sure you have other forms of sun protection.
These may seem like simple adjustments, but they truly can make a huge difference to keep your skin looking fresh and happy this summer season! Always remember that you are your skin’s advocate. Enjoy the summer sun with these easy daily tips!
