“Imperfections”: There’s nothing wrong with your skin

Every day we go out and we’re told we are not enough. “You need more of _________”, “you need to fix ________”, “you need to be younger” and “why aren’t you doing all the things?”

Here’s my take on how to address your “imperfections” with a little love.

Feel free to watch the video linked below or read the post for more detailed info.

Evaluate

When you look in the mirror, what’s the first thing that catches you eye? What is that skin concern that bothers you most? Is it a breakout that keeps showing up? Maybe some hyperpigmentation that crept up onto your cheek during pregnancy?

Next, ask yourself why it bothers you?

Does it cause you physical or emotional pain?

Who told you it wasn’t allowed to exist on your face?

Truth

That breakout, or post inflammatory spot or wrinkle is valid. It is normal, it is human to experience skin issues. Dry skin and redness means you went outside, those wrinkles mean you laughed really hard- life is a real thing that’s happened to you and your skin.

You are a whole person experiencing life and it would be impossible to move through this life without gaining some of these so called “imperfections.”

I believe…

You have a choice. It’s your body and you get to chose what you want on it.

If there’s an “imperfection” on your face, and it’s not hurting you- YOU CAN KEEP IT. You really can. If you were looking for permission, here it is.

But, choice works both ways. And, if you’d like to change something about your skin, you should be able to do that without ruining your body. You should be able to address wrinkles without pain or moisturize your skin without pouring chemicals on it.

I’m here

Whether you want to change your skin, whether you’re having a hard time loving your skin or whether you just want have a safe space to relax. I want these things for you, not to change you, but to help you ease into loving your skin.

Rituals

Showing up for yourself through ritualistic care can transform the way you view your “imperfections.” No matter if you have a lot of time to commit to self-care or just a few moments here and there- your skin will respond in kind.
